July 16th (Day 2) Regina to Winnipeg

After a good night's sleep, we were up by 8am and on the road shortly after 9am. The road to Winnipeg is familiar to us as we have travelled it many times.

It was interesting to note the many different colours of the fields in Summer, from purple, to yellow, to green to brown.  The cacaphony of colours brightened what is generally a fairly routine trip.  Shortly after we crossed into Manitoba, we stopped at the Tourist Information Centre to pick up a Manitoba map.  We noticed two nests in the corners of the building.  A swallow was sitting on one of the nests with her mate close by.  When we moved closer to get a few pictures, the pair were NOT impressed.  We soon gave up the effort. It was a good place to have lunch though.  We sat on the picnic benches munching our muffins and cheese, watching the birds fly by.

The weather today was not hot, but the sun was warm.  Our vehicle is equipped with "cooling" seats, so we thought it might be a good time to try them out.  Nice.....  we will use them again.  Because of the pleasant weather, we travelled most of the day with the sunroof open.  It wasn't until we checked into the hotel that we realized, that half of Bob's head was in sun most of the day.  Need I say more????

I don't think Bob will ever grow up.  As a train travelling on the side of the road approached an intersection, it blew its whistle.  Bob honked back, and we had a back and forth of a short train whistle and a car's honk... until the train reached the intersection and had to give a long blast.

We decided to visit one of Manitoba's "Star Attractions" and turned off on highway 250 towards Souris and the "longest swinging bridge in Canada".  The original bridge was destroyed in the flood of 2011, but it was replaced in 2013 with a $5 million dollar state of the art suspension bridge.  We had a pleasant afternoon exploring the bridge and strolling across.  It is very stable except when others are jumping or rocking on the bridge.

Instead of going back towards Brandon, we followed a secondary highway (#2) into Winnipeg and arrived at our hotel around 6:30pm.

After a appetizer supper and beer at the local pub next door, we are settled in , looking forward to our next adventure tomorrow.
