Our plan was to visit the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, and maybe take a tour. However, when we arrived at parliament hill, there were thousands of people there ahead of us, and absolutely no parking anywhere. We were also taken by the number of police and security in the area. We decided that this was too much for us, so decided to carry on with the rest of our day.
After a couple of unplanned visits to Hull, we finally managed to get on the right road and head out of Ottawa. We hadplanned on driving a small rural highway (#174)to Hawkesbury and cross into Quebec at that point. The road was very rural and very pretty. We travelled through several small communities on our way. As we travelled, we became very aware that this was obviously a francophone area as signs were predominantly French, and names of communities and businesses were french.
At Hawkesbury, we turned into a picnic area just before the bridge to Quebec for lunch. After lunch, we crossed the bridge and started down #334 towards ... well east. It was a rural road and we passed through multiple small communities and farmland. We turned in at Oka, and visited a farmer's market near the ferry. We chatted with a lovely couple at the market - she was from France, and he from Quebec. He told us he once "drove through" Saskatchewan on his way to BC. We are finding that is a common comment.
Shortly after Oka, we turned on to a larger highway (#40) towards Trois Riviere where we had decided to stay the night. After checking in, we drove into the downtown for supper. Between the one way streets and almost no parking, it made for an interesting experience. The downtown was also very busy. We found a little Italian pub, and had a lasagna and beer, which we thoroughly enjoyed.
Back in our hotel room, we are about to crawl into bed and think about another great day.
